It's no secret that learning to fly takes immense time, resources, and motivation. I've made it my mission to dive behind the scenes and show what it takes to become an airline pilot. My videos cover specific topics such as simulator training and pilot schedules to make the transition into airline training straightforward. Each video is targeted to answer questions that students and instructors are not traditionally exposed to during flight training. Let me know how I can help and what you want to learn as you start flight training!
One Month Flying The Boeing 757 & 767 | 43,500 Miles, 12 Flights, 4 Countries
Your Path to United Airlines: bit.ly/UALPilotApplication ... In May 2023, I was a "lineholder" for the first time as a United Airlines pilot flying the 757 & 767. In this video, I'll teach you what it means to transition from being a reserve pilot to holding a line, how trip trading impacts your schedule, and what it's like to fly 43,500 miles in one month. On an average month, I have 16-18 days off. So, to be clear, this month was a major exception as I brought myself down to 12 days off and flew 6 international 3-day trips.
To all of the future pilots watching... I'm so glad to be back with you after a year-long break from filming. My decision to pause UA-cam coincided with a few major events: ALPA (our pilot union) passed an important new pilot contract, and I moved to San Francisco, where I'm flying domestically on 757 across the country and to Hawaii. I hope you enjoy this video, filmed in May 2023, and can't wait to hear how else I can support your journey to the flight deck!

Your Path to United: bit.ly/UALPilotApplication ... My latest trip as a United Airlines pilot took me 16,700 miles back and forth across the Atlantic four times to Zurich, Switzerland. It was a long time to be on the road, especially over the Holiday Season!... But I love flying the 767-300 and Zurich is an incredible destination. In this video, you’ll learn about reserve assignments, the trip'...

Non-revenue travel (called nonrevving) is something nearly all airline employees share, so you don't have to be fl...

Airline Pilot Attempts Working The Ramp | Throwing Bags + More!

As an airline pilot, I don't get to see what's going on below the wing when we park at the gate. It's about time an airline pilot tried working the ramp! These crews have a lot to do during short turns to get airplanes out on time. I wanted to find out what it takes, so I shadowed some of our crews in Chicago O'Hare. Long story short, this isn't an easy job and I want to give a huge shoutout to...

I FORGOT To Bid! | Airline Pilot Mistake
Переглядів 246 тис.2 роки тому
This is a mistake I won't be making again. Forgetting to bid is one of the worst mistakes you can make as an airline pilot because your entire month is based around a flight schedule. Days on/off, pay, and overnights are all determined by your awarded line. I went from being a senior line-holder to a pilot on reserve, with minimum pay credit, mid-week days off, and multiple airport standby shif...

Airline Pilot Schedules | What You Should Know

Airline pilots have one of the most complex work schedules of any career. There's no such thing as a 9-to-5 job in our world, and understanding how our lifestyle comes together is tough... Especially if you don't have a family member in aviation. The terms we use as flight crews to describe our work schedule, like "2-day" or "standup," may seem foreign to you. Think there's no adventure in being a regional airline pilot? Flying into the North Eleuthera Island Airport (MYEH) in the Bahamas looks a lot different than pretty much every airport back in the USA. We operate fully VFR in/out of MYEH, since there's no air traffic control or radar coverage. Plus, its single runway is only 6,000 feet long with no visual approach guidance from a PAPI or VASI. I...

I follow quite a few of Airline Pilot youtubers and I've heard of them mentioning about seniority and benefits of it. However, no one wen in depth like you did. Thank you for this. It was a very informative video.
Great post - love the 757. Please post more regarding that iconic airliner
Im a low cost pilot oin asia with 4 days off. Listening to you said 13 days off is so little is just mind blowing. Lol
What a pitty you fly united, one of the most unfriendly airlines🤮
Real proud of you, Swayne, You are truly getting the most out of life. Fo;;owing you since Hawaii has been a lot of fun and very educational for this old airline wrench. Keep up the great work and keep flying until they make you stop!
Good to see you back and hopefully one day we can cross paths...
Great to see you back with another brilliant video. You do a great job with them. Congratulations on your position. Hope you enjoyed Dublin which is where I’m from, but now live in Western Australia.
Hi Swayne! I just wanted to ask you advice on whats the best way to pursue a career at United as a pilot! Thanks!
Want to see Swayne in Iceland!
Best pilot videos. Keep them coming
Glad your back
Seems weird that the safety vest needs the word PILOTon it when you’re wear in a white shirt and tie.
You got to fly a special livery wohoo
My dream is to become a pilot but its probably hard
Watched a video the other day of a A380 over 7 days flew 34,000 miles and a 777 that flew 48,000. Amazing how much these planes are in the air.
Future video idea: To the extent you're able to arrange it, and without interfering with the process, perhaps you could cover recurring training from the perspective of a younger guy who doesn't already have many years and thousands of hours in type. I could imagine working out an arrangement with UAL such that a video could be approachable for the general public who know little/nothing about the ongoing training pilots go through to train for not only the "boring" routine flights but also the unexpected. Though some "aviation insider"-focused UA-camrs have talked about how scenarios derived from actual experiences have been integrated into recurrent training - Perhaps you could put together a piece looking at that as a more passenger-facing presentation showing how safety has dramatically improved in recent times. While I realize its probably best to not cite recent incidents (at any airline) specifically, a broader overview might be useful to assuage some individuals that, no, airplanes don't (normally) "fall out of the sky" even if something does go wrong... Not only are airplanes engineered to minimize risk even if something goes sideways, pilots are also trained in an ongoing basis to further limit risk.
As someone who flys United out of Newark almost monthly, I love your videos my man. Keep up the good work!
Have you seen any UAP on night flights yet 🙃?
Welcome back! Your videos are some of the best on youtube.
So glad that UA still flies a fleet of 757s. Even though it's a narrow body plane, I found the 757 more comfortable flying back from Hawaii than the 737-900 I was on going there.
You're back!
As a pilot, do you wear a special watch to help with the job or for the time changes?
KEF is awesome!
Glad that you are back Swayne! Hope to see more content, keep going and growing like this. Congrats! 🎉🙌🏼🇦🇷
That was awesome and appreciated. Parents must be proud! Keep going young man and again thanks for sharing your journey.
What’s a “line holder?
good on you for living the dream. fenix a320 pilot here, msfs. it’s taken me around the virtual world many times. closest i’ll get to what you do!

im so happy for this LBGTQplus pilot YAY
Damn I missed you and your videos finally you're back 🎉❤
It's absolutely amazing and embarrassing that united still flies these dinosaurs across the ocean
Good commercial communication video.
Hi Mr. Martin! Good to see another well-produced video from you. I started following you before you even started with that small Hawaiian airline. What a journey! Seems you've made some great career choices to get where you are. To me, working out that schedule is more complex than any jet could be! Can't wait to see how your path goes from here!
Sad we had to wait a whole year for a video. =(
Welcome back!!! It’s about time.
How are you Swayne! Glad to see flying all over the world. Cheers from CYYB. Not sure if you are allowed to but would like to know more about go-arounds in a big jet like you fly.
